Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D) (GanS 3)

A degree that --when other people have one-- is imbued with overweening delusions of superiority, especially if they speak the wrong kind of Cornish, and extra especially if it's also been awarded by a School of Celtic Studies. It is quite distinct from one's own more worthy sheepskin (since all the best people get a Lower Second, don'cha know!)

Have you seen the way people in the Cornish language revival (both the living and the deceased) who are worthy of respect are being reviled by those who aren't fit to wipe their boots? There's a constant flow of such lies and disinformation coming largely (but not exclusively) from the apparatchiki of Kernowek Kemyn. - - - ••• - - - Several of us were appalled enough to try and do something about it. There's a long tradition within Celtic culture of satirising those who cause offense, and there are some gloriously incisive examples of this craft in the literature. Although we're not trained bards, we decided to do what we could to counter them, both in prose and in verse (and maybe even the odd bit of graphical work as well!) - - - ••• - - - Because of the verbal abuse, poison-pen letters, harassing phone calls 24/7 etc. that others have received in this arena, we decided pseudonymity would be a prudent guise. Thus were born An Pyber Dyscryjyk, An Geriadorer Dyslettrys, An Barthyk Dysbardhek & friends. Their mission: to harry the Kemynistas, the Nazgûl (or any others who follow the Dark Side of the Force), by telling the truth --with a satirical twist. - - - ••• - - - And guess what? They don't like it, not one little bit! - - - ••• - - -
